The Gospel

Have you ever been in search of “good news”? We live in a world of car repairs, house repairs, hospital visits, car accidents, aging, family deaths, and endless stacking of bills. In a world that is driven on “keeping up with the Jonses”, hundreds of thousands of people look for good news for their day. They try to find this “good news” in people, places, and things.  The end result, leaves many disappointed and frustrated because their “good news” doesn’t last or satisfy.

The reason for this is found in Ecclesiastes 3:11, where Solomon writes “..God has put eternity in every man’s heart.” Every man has a longing in their heart to be satisfied, but no matter how many things or people they put in their hearts they continue to not be satisfied, because only God can fill that longing in their heart. There is a God shaped hole in every man’s heart that only God can feel.

You see….

We are all sinners. That means we have all committed wrong. Whether it be stealing while in school or committing adultery, every man that lives on this earth is a sinner. That is not the thoughts from a man but God. God said in Romans 3:23- “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” All have sinned. God is holy, and we are not. This is why we are separated from God, because God is holy.

BUT God is love, also. He is not without mercy and grace.

Here’s the Good News….

God wants you. With all your mess ups, with all your screw ups, He wants a relationship with you.

In Romans 5:8, God says, “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

While we were doing wrong, Christ died for us.
While we were spitting in His face, Christ died for us.
While we were mocking Him, Christ was pierced for us.

Here’s the thing – You can hate God, you can despise God, you can curse God, but one thing you cannot do is cause Him to stop loving you.

He knew that you had sin, He knew that you had done wrong, and He knew that you needed hope. So, God sent His perfect Son, Jesus Christ, to take your place on the cross to die so that you could have everlasting life. That doesn’t sound like “hate”, because that is “true love”.

Love sacrifices. That is exactly what Jesus Christ did for you. He took your spiritual death. That should have been you upon the cross, but it wasn’t. In order for all humanity to have a chance at a relationship with God, a perfect sacrifice had to be made, and that perfect sacrifice was God Himself, Jesus Christ.

The worst part of Jesus death was not the beatings.
It was not His beard being ripped out.
It was not punches to the face.
It was not cursing to His face.
It was not the scourging that left His flesh hanging like ribbons
It was not the nails that were pierced in His wrist and His feet.
It was not the wooden, ugly, splintery cross in his back.
It was not the crown of thorns piercing His head.

The WORST part was that He had the sins of your past, present, and future laid upon His back. The sins of the world were laid upon Him so that He could die for them. He took all the sins of humanity and died for you.

In Romans 6:23 God says, “For the penalty of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” The penalty for our sin is a spiritual death in hell. Many say that a God of love wouldn’t send people to hell. The truth is because God has given every man a free will every man has the choice to either receive Jesus or reject Jesus. So if someone rejects Jesus, “they” send themselves to hell. God never intended for any man to go to hell. He created hell for satan and his demons, and He sent Jesus so that we could be in heaven with Him.

Interestingly enough, Jesus didn’t ask for your permission to die for you. He did it. Which means the price has already been paid for your sin. All you have to do is believe in Him as your Savior and repent of your sin that Jesus died for. Repent means “a change of mind and a change of heart”.  Jesus said, “You can’t hold on to mammon and God at the same time”. You must choose one or the other. Romans 10:13 says, “That if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you SHALL be saved.”

In John 14:6, Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to God the Father, except through me.” Notice, Jesus didn’t say “a” way, but He said “the” way. Jesus Christ can say that, because He is the ONLY One who has ever died for you. If God wanted to destroy the world He would have sent a “destroyer”, but He wanted to save the world so he sent a “Savior”.

Why would you not want to have a relationship with Someone who has died for you?
Why would you not want to live in eternity with Jesus?
Wont you accept Him today?
He is willing and ready to save you!

THAT is Good News. THAT is the Gospel.

If you want to be saved, pray this in your heart: Father, I know that I have sinned. I repent of it, and I am asking you now to be my Savior and Lord. I believe you died and rose again so that I might be saved. Thank you for saving me and help me to live for you the rest of my days. In Jesus name. Amen.
